What can we understand by infertility?
Infertility is the impossibility for a couple to conceive naturally after a year or more of unprotected intercourse.
In Spain alone there are around 600,000 couples of a reproductive age who have trouble conceiving. According to the European Institute of Fertility each year 16,000 new couples in our country have trouble conceiving and need to attend a centre specializing in assisted reproduction.
Also, in the last five years the number of women who choose to face motherhood alone has quadrupled and they need the help of a reproductive specialist.
Inevitably in this situation, many doubts and questions arise such as:
- What tests must I and mustn’t I do?
- Where and how can I do them whilst saving me time, delays, changes to working hours, confidentially and securely?
- What is my problem?
- What possible solutions are there and which would be the most effective, safest and economical?
- Why have past treatments failed?
- Do my chances of pregnancy worsen if I delay treatment?
FIV Marbella will answer all your questions, and we will recommend the most appropriate treatment to achieve your pregnancy, giving you all the human, medical and psychological support you need during the whole process.
When to see a specialist?
Consult a specialist if the female partner is under 35 and after a year of unprotected intercourse, pregnancy has not been achieved.
If the female partner is over 35, a basic fertility check-up is advised if pregnancy has not been achieved after six months of unprotected intercourse.
This is also advisable after six months of unprotected intercourse in cases, regardless of age, if there are previous risk factors such as endometriosis, polycystic ovary syndrome, gynecological surgery, spontaneous abortions.
In the case of the male partner is advisable to see a specialist if a pregnancy has not been achieved after a year of unprotected intercourse or after six months in cases of previous genital surgery, mumps in childhood , erection difficulties, and also in cases of concomitant disease such as obesity, hypertension or diabetes.
